March/April update

Time for a monthly update, haha!

Of course, the last month saw a flurry of activities with Easter stuff and trying to keep ourselves busy while we waited for warmer weather...which seems to have FINALLY made an appearance this week! Yay, spring (for real)!!!

It finally hit 70 degrees in columbus, so we hit up a new playground! 



I'll be honest, I am starting to get tiiiiiirred dealing with both this pregnancy AND running after the feisty girl who is my daughter.
I am so ready to not be pregnant anymore! I'll be 26 weeks tomorrow and have a few more ultrasounds with maternal fetal (aka, the "old lady doctors!) in addition to my normal visits with my regular doctor. I just saw him this week and baby boy's heartbeat is still going strong, and he's continuing to move around a lot in there.
Last night, I was feeling a little achy and questionably feverish, and just flat out lousy, so I emailed the hubs to pick up dinner and went to bed.  I rarely, if ever, do that. But today, I feel more normal so am wondering if my body was just telling me to slow down a bit?
In any case, I really hope and pray my body can keep going for at least 11 more weeks when I'll be full term in this pregnancy. I feel like I could pop now!

Maddie looks like she's up for anything - gotta love a toddler's energy! Of course, that makes it challenging for a pregnant Mama, but hopefully you both are taking naps. Sweet pictures, and I was wondering how your mom was doing, so thanks for including that lovely shot of her and Maddie. :)

Life lately

There are good days and there are bad days.  The good days are when I'm distracted from all things concerning my mom, or the times I see her in person or over Skype and catch her smiling or talking normally and it calms my soul;  the bad days catch me by surprise and kind of piss me off, quite frankly.  Like yesterday-- I was doing just fine, as I think I'd been for the past week, until I sat down last evening and opened a book I picked up from the library that I'd seen on someone's recent book list:   When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalinithi.  I am not sure what I was thinking, reading a book written by a man around my age who died of terminal lung cancer shortly after writing it, especially in the midst of my own mother's terminal cancer diagnosis. Just popping in to say...

Hello, world! Our little prince, Elliott Ryan, was born Friday morning, June 29th, at 10:13 am after a very quick labor and delivery (thank God!). Weight: 6 lbs, 0 oz. 18.9 inches We love him so much! While his entrance wasn't expected until the end of July, I had this strong feeling for a week that he'd be arriving soon:) We are adjusting to life with two kiddos, and sleep deprivation all over again:( but we are happy and healthy and I am INCREDIBLY grateful to be able to nurse this time. I'm looking forward to writing about Elliott's birth story soon. In the meantime, the past few days have been filled with endless diaper changes, a baby attached to my boob and lots and lots of snuggles and kisses:) Happy Fourth of July!

Dear Teacher, I don't like to practice so...you're fired!

It's funny--whenever I lose a student (and I learn to expect it at some point throughout the year, it's just inevitable), I get the overwhelming urge to drop everything and go bust out a serious run.  Other than praying and meditating, running is seriously the most therapeutic activity I know of. I know it's ridiculous--and I've talked about it several times in the past--but a small part of me dies whenever I unexpectedly lose a student...especially when I know it's because they were sick of me correcting their form and being a stickler for good technique.  I've lost a LOT of students to fiddle playing--or at least, the claim that they would rather study fiddle playing (although before quitting or moving on to another teacher, they would never express that desire to explore it with me--just a ton of gloomy faces whenever I'd crack out the Kreutzer or work on their bow holds!).  I'd always offer the opinion to the parent that good technique would be the
