Double workout Wednesday

Image
I know I've slacked on posting about a few P90X workouts here and there, but that doesn't mean I haven't been doing them!  They just start to get a little repetitive after awhile (I'm doing the Classic program, so I'm repeating the same weekly routine for 3 weeks before moving on to another phase). Yesterday was KenpoX day (Day 6), which wasn't too bad.  But I still worked up a sweat.  I ran my usual Wednesday errands (it's my day off, so I use it to catch up on all mundane things) and stopped by Trader Joe's.  I like having fresh flowers in the house, but most of the time I don't bother because, of course, they wilt and die, and being the procrastinator that I am, I usually have dead flowers in the house for several weeks before I decide to throw them out.  But I decided I needed some color right now...and it IS Spring, so I got these: After that I swung by the MAC counter at Macy's because I was long overdue for new makeup: I got mine

P90X Day 4: Yoga X!

It wasn't ideal, but I skipped two days of P90X over the weekend when I went home for my dad's 60th birthday.  Initially, I told myself that I'd get up extra early Sunday morning to do the yoga workout, but instead I got up early to accompany my parents in picking up an older friend whose husband is in the hospital.  I hadn't seen her in years and I wanted to go. Yeah, I probably should have gotten up at 5am to get it done, but that did not happen.  Oh, and my parents don't have a DVD player? What the heck! Anyway, I finally got back into the routine yesterday.  Holy moly!  I did ballet for years and thought yoga would be a piece of cake.  Omigosh it was the hardest thing I've done so far!  That "crane" move?  Forget that! I think I was only able to kind of hold that pose for 2 seconds before falling over. Today is supposed to be Legs and Back, which I will do tonight.  This morning I got a short row in--2.2 miles on the Concept 2. Other than th

P90X: Day 2- Plyometrics

I'm just going to do a quickie post about my second day of P90X, because it's getting late and I haven't done much else this evening once getting home from teaching, other than the workout. Today was plyometrics, basically meaning that there was a LOT of jumping action going on.  If you were to walk in on any of the sets, you'd probably think to yourself, "Huh, that's it? That's pretty easy!" Because that's what I thought the first 10 minutes.  But it's just the continuity that starts to wear on you.  Squats, lunges, deep jumping jacks, leaps in the air, etc. for a full hour?  Yeah, I was sweating.  My legs will thank me tomorrow. And now, I totally feel cramps coming on.  Super.  Just in time for Friday.  Couldn't have picked a more perfect workout to usher in my monthly bill, huh?  TMI?  Whatever.  Hopefully only women read this.  If you're a guy, then just walk away and pretend you didn't read that. Going to bed now and pra

Sore

I was worried that maybe I didn't work hard enough during yesterday's chest and arms workout, because I felt pretty o.k. afterwards.  This morning is a whole other story, though!  Yep, feeling it in my upper arms--I am SO relieved to have that feeling!  It's been a long time since I've felt that sore after a workout.  I've done so much cardio, that I think my body just got used to it.  Time for that muscle confusion! Ryan emailed me while at work asking if I wanted to go for a short run when he got home.  Normally, I would have said "no" after doing my own workout, but I was still on a high and so happy I had actually completed a single P90X workout that I said "sure!".  We visited our clubhouse gym that had just recently been renovated and got on two empty treadmills next to each other...just to find out that they were out of order. Grrr.  So Ryan got on another one that worked (the rest were occupied) and I tried out the elliptical machine.

P90X: Day 1

So after months of thinking and thinking and thinking about doing P90X...I finally dragged my butt down to the basement, popped in the first disc and pushed through the 55 minute or so workout.  Day One--Chest and Back--done! It.Was.Hard. Here's what I was able to do: - 28 standard pushups -10 chin ups (assisted with chair) -13 military push ups -6 reverse grip chin ups -10 wide fly pushups -10 close grip chin ups -10 decline pushups -10 (10 lb.) heavy pants -11 diamond pushups -20 lawnmowers, both sides w/ 10 lb weights -8 divebomber pushups -10 backflys -10 wide grip pull ups -15 standard pushups (I was shaking at this point!) -10 reverse chin ups -10 military pushups -10 close grip chin ups -10 wide fly pushups -10 (20 lb) heavy pants -10 decline pushups -12 lawnmowers (20 lbs.) -10 diamond pushups -12 backflys -8 divebomber pushups I KNOW I need to really work on my form for a lot of the pushups.  Especially the dive bomber pushups--I have a reall

"What's up?" "Not much...what's up with you?"

I just got done with a three hour rehearsal for Handel's Messiah this morning, and saw a few familiar faces--some musicians that tend to play the same gigs, the same music director, etc. and we exchanged pleasantries with most asking me "what's new?" My answer being, "Oh, just the same old stuff!"  Driving home I was thinking about that and how boring my life must sound right about now.  And YET, it doesn't prevent me from blogging!!! I don't know, I guess I feel like I'm always a 'work in progress'.  There is just no end in sight and maybe that's why things seem a little slow and boring right now.  I try to work out, keep my house from looking like a complete wreck (this is a daily effort), more or less maintain my violin skills, and then just tell myself that at some point, some things will change--either for the better or worse.  But they're small changes; nothing to brag about.  And that's just life. New Restaurant and Some Cleaning i.e. A Pretty Boring Saturday

Ryan got a Groupon deal for the restaurant, Knead , in a part of downtown Columbus called Short North.  It's very close to North Market, which is one of the more interesting things Columbus has to offer (can you tell I'm not a Buckeye fan? I'm just not that into football overall. Whatevs).  We finally made it out there (sans my camera, of course) and walked into a crowd of people waiting to be seated.  We weren't deterred since we didn't have anywhere else to be.  However, instead of a hostess taking your name down, there was just a pad of paper sitting on a table and you had to write your name down along with the number of people in your party.  Kind of weird.  There weren't any instructions telling you to do this, either.  We were told by other people waiting already after we stood there like deer in headlights for a minute or so. After a 20-25 minute wait, we were seated.  We both already knew what we wanted since we had looked at the menu beforehand.  The a

Unsolved Mystery

So about that strange thing that happened yesterday evening (and for the record, this isn't meant to be over-hyped, it's just that I can't wrap my head around what exactly happened, so bear with me!): Yesterday was my day off as I already mentioned in the last post.  I spent part of the afternoon running errands and came back home around 4:30pmish.  As is the routine, I typically unload my car and then take my dogs out to go potty.  Our Yorkie, Zoe, is really good about not having accidents, and so we let her roam the house when we're not home; our other dog, Phoebe, has separation anxiety (she was adopted with a few problems, but we love her) and we have to put her in a crate, even for just an hour. So anyways, I specifically remember letting my dogs out and then going back inside the house--this part is important--because I had to lure Zoe back inside with the promise of a treat.  Usually if I take the dogs out in the middle of the day, I do it without their leashe

Some purchases and TJ's Grocery Haul

Image
Today, as usual, was my day off and I spent it doing some much needed errands and to also check out some random items I'd been lusting over online. These storage canisters from Pier1 Imports: I was getting pretty tired of pulling bags of flour and sugar from the pantry and making a mess, too, whenever I used them.  Plus, I'm trying to make everything around here a little more organized. I "pinned" this cute butter container (and I needed one anyways, so it wasn't completely a frivolous purchase) on Pinterest not long ago and finally snatched it up: And lastly--I don't know why--but I took a photo of my Trader Joe's grocery haul; up until now I'd been shopping at our local Kroger (I think in other regions they're also known as "Ralph's") thinking I was getting such a good deal because of their fuel rewards.  I finally decided that I was being scammed and from now on will be making my main grocery trips to TJ's:

First weekend in March

I am feeling the "blogger blahs" lately:  not feeling particularly excited to chat about anything really, but still wanting to maintain some kind of cyber presence.  I'm a weirdo, I know. I am so glad February is over.  Not because it was necessarily rough for me (my life is anything BUT rough, if we're going to be honest here) but because the hubs had a crazy month at work and I barely got to have any face time with him.  For the past 4 weeks, as soon as he would set foot home, he'd be right on the couch with his work laptop working some more literally until it was time to go to bed.  And often, he wouldn't go to bed until midnight or 1am only to wake up 5 or 6 hours later to go back to work.  I felt bad for him. I'm not going to bore anyone with details, but  he's been working very hard in hopes of furthering his career at his current company because--and he and I have stopped talking to death about it, and I haven't talked much about it on he
